Shoemakers request EU to lower tax

ActionAid, an international non government organization in poverty reduction and Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) today submitted another official paper to European Community, requesting for their review of anti-dumping tax application on leather capped shoes from Vietnam.
This request submitted to EC is signed by more than 2000 worker in leather and shoes sector. It was also attached with a research report on impact of anti dumping suit on Vietnam’s leather and shoes sector conducted by Action Aid and Lefaso last May. This report will also be presented at the coming hearings organized in Brussels.
As of today, Vietnam made leather upper shoes exports to EU will be subject to an anti dumping tax as high as 8.4%, instead of 4.2% as applied over last 2 months.
According to Action Aid and Lefaso, the premilinary duty rate of 4.2% applied in the last 2 months has seriously affected earnings of 1 millions workers in this sector, whose regular income is only 20.000 VND per day.
