According to the recent news, Russia is willing to withdraw their ban order on rice and mango import from Pakistan. The official announcement will be delivered in the upcoming visit of high ranking Pakistani delegation in second week of August.
The Russian Government has sent a mission of Medical Safety and Quarantine Board to Pakistan to discuss about quality and safety of agricultural products of this country.
The Pakistani rice exporters are very delighted at this news and look forward to the official removal of ban order on rice import from Russia, as similar decision has also granted to rice import from India.
In December 2006, Russia decided to impose a ban on rice from Pakistan to enter their market, like previous order on Vietnamese and Indian rice, due to the quality reasons.
Prior to that, Russia imported from Pakistan about 0,4-0,5 million tonnes of rice until an import duty of 70 Euro (equivalent to 92,32 USD) per ton was applied in April 2005. Since then, Russia only imported about 0,15-0,2 million tonnes per year.
