KARACHI: The National Tariff Commission (NTC) has initiated investigations against the dumping of Pegylated Interferon Alpha-2A (antiviral drug) in Pakistan from Switzerland, officials said.
The commission had received an application under Sections 20 and 24 of the Anti-Dumping Duties Ordinance, 2000 from Getz Pharma (Pvt) Limited, Karachi, alleging that the said product was being exported to Pakistan at dumped prices from Switzerland, which was causing injury to the domestic industry, producing similar products.
The product under investigation is used for treatment of adult patients with chronic hepatitis-C (CHC) and chronic hepatitis-B (CHB).
Further, the alleged dumped imports of the investigated product into Pakistan caused injury to the domestic industry by way of increase in the volume of alleged dumped imports, price suppression, price depression and losses, negative effects on inventories, cash flows and return on investment.
The NTC initiated an investigation pursuant to Section 23 of the Ordinance.
The investigation will determine whether the investigated product originating in and/or exported from Switzerland is being dumped in Pakistan and whether or not this is injurious to the domestic industry.
