Illegal shipments of fishery products will not have customs clearance

The direction of the General Department of Vietnam Customs aims to implement the Prime Minister's Decision 757/QD-TTg dated June 4, 2020 approving the plan for the implementation of the agreement on Port State Measures to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nationsuntil 2025.

Specifically, the General Department of Vietnam Customs has requested provincial and municipal customs departments to direct their customs branches to intensify the inspection for imported fishery products, review, check and compare dossiers related to operation of fishing vessels from foreign countries enteringVietnam's seaports to import, temporarily import for re-export, temporarily export for re-import, transfer border gate and transit across Vietnamese territory, ensuring smooth customs clearance according to regulations.

The General Department of Vietnam Customs has also requested units to refuse customs clearance if detecting fishery product shipments violating regulations on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU).
