Fruit and vegetable exports in the last month of 2025 showed very high growth compared to the same period in 2024, bringing the total exports for the year to a record high of nearly $8.6 billion.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetable Association, in the last month of 2025, fruit and vegetable exports will reach 794 million USD, an increase of 13.2% compared to November 2025 and a 50% increase compared to December 2024.
With these results, by the end of 2025, fruit and vegetable exports set a new record in value at 8.562 billion USD, much higher than the initial target of 8 billion USD and a 20% increase compared to 2024.
Conversely, in 2025, Viet Nam's fruit and vegetable imports are projected to reach $3 billion. Thus, in the past year, the fruit and vegetable sector had a trade surplus of over $5.5 billion.
It can be said that 2025 marked a significant milestone for Viet Nam's fruit and vegetable industry when export turnover exceeded US$8 billion for the first time, reaching a record high of nearly US$8.6 billion. This result affirms Viet Nam's increasingly prominent role in the global tropical fruit and vegetable supply chain.
Over the past year, China continued to be a key market, dominating the growth trend of the entire fruit and vegetable industry. In the first half of 2025, fruit and vegetable export value decreased, mainly due to China tightening control over cadmium and Yellow O on imported durian, leading to a sharp decline in fruit and vegetable exports to this market.
From the third quarter of 2025, fruit and vegetable exports are expected to recover significantly as businesses strengthen the standardization of growing areas, packaging facility codes, traceability, and product quality. In addition, Vietnamese and Chinese authorities are enhancing effective coordination to resolve technical obstacles, thereby helping to maintain stable customs clearance for key products, especially durian.
As a result, by the end of 2025, fruit and vegetable exports to China will surpass the $5 billion mark for the first time, reaching $5.5 billion, an 18% increase compared to 2024. China will account for 64% of total fruit and vegetable export value in 2025.
Besides China, many other markets also experienced good growth over the past year, with the US market reaching $547 million, a 52% increase compared to 2024.
In 2025, the export value of most Vietnamese fruits and vegetables is expected to increase compared to the same period in 2024. Exports of many items (including fresh, frozen, and processed fruits) are expected to record double- to triple-digit growth, indicating a trend towards expansion and diversification of the export product structure of the fruit and vegetable industry.
Outstanding growth items include durian, coconut, mango, pistachios, lemons, passion fruit, almonds, fresh pineapple, processed pineapple, lychee, chili peppers, ginger, garlic... reflecting efforts to reduce dependence on traditional products and better exploit high value-added segments.
