Despite a decline in exports last month due to the Lunar New Year holiday, overall in the first two months of this year, Vietnamese exports to the Chinese market still increased by nearly 40% compared to the same period last year, bringing in over $11 billion.
According to statistics from the Customs Department, the leading export items are computers, electronic products, and components. This is followed by telephones and components, machinery, equipment, tools, and textiles. Notably, a number of agricultural product groups such as fruits and vegetables, seafood, rice, and coffee all recorded impressive growth. China has been identified as a key export market for Vietnamese agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products. Besides strong export items like fruits and vegetables and seafood, businesses are focusing on increasing market share in promising products such as rubber, pepper, and cassava.
Speaking at a recent trade promotion meeting with the system of Vietnamese trade offices abroad in the first quarter of 2026, Ms. Le Hang, Vice President of the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Processing and Export (Vasep), said that in the first two months of this year, seafood exports brought in $1.7 billion, an increase of 20% compared to the same period last year. Due to technical factors and tariffs, exports to the US grew more slowly, with some items even experiencing sharp declines in February, such as tuna (down 26%) and shrimp (down 60%).
Overall, in 2025, Viet Nam's export value to China recorded a 14.8% increase, reaching US$70.45 billion, equivalent to a US$9.08 billion increase compared to the previous year, according to the Customs Department.
Exports of several product groups to China in 2025 are expected to increase sharply compared to the previous year, such as computers, electronic products and components reaching US$16.89 billion, up 33.6% (equivalent to an increase of US$4.24 billion); fruits and vegetables reaching US$5.5 billion, up 18.8% (equivalent to an increase of US$873 million); and seafood reaching US$2.28 billion, up 31.9% (equivalent to an increase of US$552 million)...
