India has imposed anti-dumping duty on the import of jute sacking clothes from Bangladesh in order to protect domestic industry.
Welcoming the move, Director General of Indian Jute Mills Association Swapan Moitra told KNN India that the industry has been seeking the anti-dumping duty on sacking clothes from Bangladesh to save the Indian jute sector as free imports adversely affects the jute growers.
He asserted, “Since duty is imposed on clothes which will be very positive for the industry. Importers continued to source jute clothes and making bags in India.”
notification showed anti-dumping duty imposed between USD 125.21 and USD 138.97 per tonne. It will be applicable for 5 years effective from June 18, 2019.
