Agriculture, forestry and fishery sector seeks solutions to increase year-end export growth

Taking advantage of opportunities from high-quality rice, deeply processed seafood products, and expanding to new markets is considered a key direction for the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector to maintain export growth momentum in the last months of 2025.

High-quality rice, low-carbon labeling paves the way

According to Mr. Pham Thai Binh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company, the demand for safe rice and low-carbon labeled rice is increasing rapidly in the world. This is an advantage for Vietnamese rice to expand to demanding markets, maintain the annual export output of about 8 million tons , and maintain the position of the second largest rice exporting country in the world .

Mr. Do Ha Nam - Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) also said that Africa is a potential market with great purchasing power. Although there are still risks of slow payment, if taken advantage of, this will become one of Vietnam's important rice export markets in the near future.

Seafood optimistic thanks to deep processing

In the first 7 months of the year, seafood exports reached more than 6.2 billion USD , up more than 17% over the same period last year. Despite facing difficulties when the US imposed a 20% reciprocal tax and anti-dumping tax, the seafood industry still has prospects thanks to the advantage of producing deeply processed products.

Ms. To Thi Tuong Lan - Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) commented that Vietnam is becoming a center for processing value-added products, gaining an advantage when many competing countries cannot produce some specific products that large supermarket chains in the US are still forced to import from Vietnam.

Expanding into new markets

In the past 7 months, the export turnover of the entire agricultural sector reached 39.7 billion USD , an increase of 14.7% over the same period in 2024. With this growth momentum, it is forecasted that the whole year of 2025 could reach 65 billion USD .

Mr. Tran Minh Hai - Vice Principal of the School of Public Policy and Rural Development emphasized: "The Middle East and North Africa are new markets with great potential, but it is necessary to carefully study technical barriers to ensure that they meet international standards."

In addition to the US, China and Japan continue to play a key role, many potential markets also recorded strong growth: EU (up 49%), Middle East (up 10.9%) and Africa (up 88.9%) . The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector is expected to reach 70 billion USD in export turnover in 2025.
