Vietnam Furniture Makers Warned of Possible U.S. Dumping Action

Vietnam’s trade counselor in the United States, Ngo Van Thoan, has warned Vietnamese furniture manufacturers of a possible anti-dumping investigation of their goods exported stateside, according to a report on the Web site VietnamNet Bridge.

According to the report, furniture was Vietnam’s second-biggest export category to the United States last year after apparel, rising 36 percent over 2006 to more than $1.2 billion. Thoan said Vietnam hopes to export $1.6 billion worth of furniture to the U.S. market in 2008.

He said U.S. manufacturers have complained that rising imports from Vietnam hand led to factory closings and job losses, and counseled Vietnamese furniture makers to start now in preparing information to confront any possible investigation.
