The US market – the huge potential target market of Vietnam’s exported wooden products in 2007

Exporting wooden products to the US market in the first seven months of this year reaches USD 499.8 million, a 25.5% increase compared to year on year. It is estimated that the US is continuously the huge potential target market of Vietnam’s exported wooden products in 2007.
 
Trade News – According to statistic data, the turn-over of wooden products exported to the US market in June reaches USD 80.8 million, increased 27.5% in comparison with June 2006. In the first six months of 2007, this turn-over gains USD 426 million, a 27.8% increase to year on year. Interior wooden furniture exported to the US market in 2007 is mainly made from cajuput wood, oak, mulberry, and so on with significantly high price.

Vietnam’s interior furniture in bedroom continuously takes its advantages when exporting to the US market. The turn-over of this product category makes up 48.6% the total turn-over of wooden products exported to the US market with the value of USD 39.2 million, a 21.7% increase compared to May 2006. These products include bed as a unit and its parts, sideboard, dressing table, toilet table, wardrobe, and so on. Interior furniture in bedroom exported to the US market reaches remarkably high price. For example, wardrobe 212 (212x69x241) cm made of santal and xylocarp wood; a Open Nightstand sideboard costs USD 635; a bed made of cajuput wood costs USD 585.12; export price of a California King bed is USD 556.8, increasing USD 36.8 per unit in comparison with May 2007; and so on.

Next to the export turn-over of interior furniture in living room and dining room with the gains USD 18.2 million in June and accounts for 22.5% the total one. This line of product includes wardrobe, table, TV shelf, and so on. Their prices are significantly high, for example, an oyster wardrobe (1183x530x1761) mm made of acacia and oak wood costs USD 1046.5, increasing USD 149.5 compared with the last month.

June’s turn-over of chair exported to the US market is also large, with the total value of nearly USD10 million, increasing 14.9% to May 2007, and making up 12.4% of the total turn-over of wooden products exported to America. Most types of chair are made from high-standard wood such as cajuput, oak, santal, and so on with significantly high prices.

In addition, export of interior furniture in office also reaches USD 4.8 million, increasing 37.1% in comparison with May 2007, accounting for 5.9%; fine art wooden products reaches USD 1.9 million, accounting for 2.4%; interior furniture in kitchen gains USD 1.7, accounting for 2.1% of the total turn-over.

The US is now accelerating the import of wooden interior furniture in office, about USD 1 billion per year, increasing 13%. This is a Vietnam’s product with considerable potential for import. Companies should diversify more and more interior products exported to this market in order to increase exporting value and avoid being sued for anti- dumping in the US.

Especially in June 2007, there have been about 280 exporting enterprises, increasing 40 ones in comparison with the turn of the year. Among them, foreign investment companies account for 20.8% of the total ones.
