Towel Manufacturers' Exporters (TMA) of Pakistan on Wednesday demanded of the Federal Secretary Commerce to lift the anti-dumping duty placed on import of hydrogen peroxide, saying that the input product is short on the local market causing troubles for textile exporters.

The association sent a letter to Federal Secretary Commerce, Muhammad Younus Dagha, and its copy also provided to Business Recorder, requested for lifting the anti-dumping duty from import of hydrogen peroxide, which is a key ingredient in textile goods manufacturing. It said that the anti-dumping duty should be removed until the key input supply by the local providers improves.

It said that the shortage also scaled up prices of hydrogen peroxide on the local market leaving the textile manufacturing widely affected. Resultantly, it said, the affected sector becomes further uncompetitive on the world markets. It also complained that the primary suppliers are providing hydrogen peroxide to their regular clients since they have limited stocks, refusing to entertain the TMA members' requisitions.

"For the survival of exporting textile industries we request for immediate removal of anti-dumping duty imposed. However, for the sake of local producers when market become stable and producer starts producing goods as per requirement, the NTC is fully empowered to give protection to local industries," the TMA said.
