VIS’s move is not wrong.

Reading arguments in Vietnam Steel Association on the case that VIS cooperated with Chinese mills to make steel bearing domestic trademark to import to and sell in Vietnam in consideration of lower price, I think the action of VIS is nothing wrong, and it even be welcomed by Vietnamese consumers.

I would like to share some views.

1- It is legal that the owner of the trademark sells or endorses to others, let alone cooperation between two companies.

2- In competition, we should think about the fact that Vietnam has joined WTO. Thus, previous documents, especially ones before 1999, need to be considered with great care.

3- That Chinese products sold in China’s market at lower price than imported one to Vietnam is suitable with WTO’s principles. Domestic enterprises should consider the cooperation for benefits of the people, and of the development.

4- Everyone who thinks of protectionism must bear in mind that Vietnam and China are both WTO members.

Breaking down monopoly is good.

It is good for not only the economy but also the consumers to create good conditions for competition. This is one of our targets as joining WTO. If the steel price falls by some ways, domestic producing and construction industries will have opportunity to decrease their costs. With worries, Ministry of Trade can investigate whether dumping element (selling at lower price than the real one) exists or not. We can not prohibit foreign goods breaking into Vietnam market.
