On August 27th, Chinese government raised its voice inprotection of exporting products after alot of countries had taken back theproducts rooted from China.

At the same time, a campaign to improve products’ qualitywas launched by this country in order to regained confidence of domesticconsumers.

Recently, the USand other countries have been boycotting goods imported from Chinasuch as toothpaste, toys, aquiculture, etc, because they did not meet therequirements of quality and safety. Facing the risk of losing its position inthe world market, the country has tried its best to regain reputation for “Madein China”goods.

Protesting the USagainst unsafe toys

That nearly 20 million of Chinatoys were rejected by the US Company named Mattel because of its unsafe hasrecently been a big event.

On August 27th, having had a talk with press, the Head ofGeneral Administration of Quality Supervision of China, Li Chang Jiangprotested the USwhen this country blamed all the faults on China. He said that 85% of nearly 20 million toys of China returned by one Americancompany named Mattel was because of technical design of the US, only 15% didnot meet the safety requirements on quality because producers had used paintwith high lead content.

According to Mr. Li Chang Jiang these toys were producedunder the design and the requirements of the USimporters. Therefore, not only should Chinese producers but also the USimporters and design companies be responsible for this matter. Differentstandards which the USand Chinaapplied for different products would lead to the different ideas whenidentifying whether products “are troublesome” or not.

Due to the Head of General Administration of QualitySupervision, the number of exporting toys of this country reached 22 billion in2006. This showed that most of Chinese toys met the safety requirements ofimporting countries and were welcome by consumers.

Regarding the impact on exporting activity after China-produced toys had been returned by Mattel Inc., Li Chang Jiang affirmed thatbasing on data of National Statistic Bureau, Chinese products are stillapplauded by consumers. For the first 6 months of this year, Chinese exportingincreased by 27.7%, specifically 17.85% to the US,30.2% to Europe, and 11.3% to Japan.

All exporting-goods- production grounds would be harshly monitored and all kinds of exportingfood which wanted to clear customs must have quarantine certificate.

Mrs. Ngo Nghi said that this country would treat harshly toillegal or under- standard producers. According to her, the case of some kindsof Chinese consumer goods that did not achieve safety standards, at that time, was caused by inspection and slack implementation of law.

Chinabegan to commit and negotiate with commercial partners about standards ofproduct safety. On August 26th at the annual meeting between ASEAN economicministers and Chinese in Philippine, Chinaand ASEAN came to the conclusion that standards and product safety must betightened.

This agreement was passed by two parties and in whichspecified: product quality and food safety were the mutual challenge of everycountry; both parties should cooperate actively, improve control and assurequality.
