According to Jakarta Post online, on August 8th, Indonesia government officially released a list of 26 cosmetics products from China to be prohibited from entering Indonesia market.
According to Mr. Mari Elka Pangestu, Minister of Trade, such ban order aimed to protect the right of domestic consumers, not a countervailing move against recent ban order of Chinese Government on Indonesia-sourced seafood.
The mentioned list also applies to prohibited cosmetics from Taiwan, Korea, Thailand and the Philippines. These products were detected to include mercury, retinoic acid, hydroquinone and diethyl glycol harmful to human health.
Last month, Indonesia also decided to abandon China sourced candies due to the detection of formaldehyde substance in these products.
