(VietNamNet) – According to the official notice of US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on its website, during 6 beginning months of year 2007, hundreds of batches of food exported from Vietnam to America were rejected due to their failure to meet food safety and hygiene requirements.

During the first six months of 2007, totally 260 batches of export food consignments from Vietnam to America were rejected due to hygiene and safety reasons such as containing dirt or noxious substance-as stated by official website of FDA.

Lately, in June 2007, there were 35 batches of goods from Vietnam were detected to be inconsistent with the standards of food hygiene safety (See below diagram).

Those batches included different kinds of products as girdle cake, cake, candy of all kinds, spring roll, spice, sweet-and-sour onion, grinded black pepper, coffee, salted vegetables, dry noodle, meat, processed aquatic products (fish, shrimp, crab, squid…)

Many kinds of processed food products made by Vietnam were detected to contain dirt and substances harmful to the health of people. These substance are Salmonella which causes the diarrhea, chemical adjuvant or Aflatoxin which causes cancer. Many ingredients were not written in goods’ labels.

Many foodstuff processed by big companies of Vietnam as Mekophar, Acecook, Acecook (Acecook VietNam Co., Ltd. Ho Chi Minh); Seaspimex TP.HCM - Vi?t Nam, No 4 Refrigration Co., Ltd and Trung Nguyen Coffee Enterprise... were returned.

For instance, on March 27, 2007, 10 salmon consignment of Ben Tre Co., were returned to the existence of dirt and other residues. Similarly, instant noodles with Thai hotpot flavor of Acecook Co.,Ltd was also rejected. Other seafood consignments of HCMC-based Seaspimex Co.,ltd also could not enter US market for the same reason.

Trung Nguyen Coffee Co.,Ltd also faced with hygiene and safety barriers from US and was concluded to violate 3 critical requirements, namely failure to specify product ingredients, false label and insufficient products information on label. More seriously, export nuts of Vuong Kim Long Co.,Ltd were detected by FDA to infect with Aflatoxin, a very dangerous substance.

Vietnamese spices are also among the list of unclean, salmonella - infected export products. In April 2007, FDA refused 7 consignments of black pepper of  a Dak Nong –based company, Olam Vietnam Ltd.

The most recent enterprises detected with safety violation included Tan Thanh Loi Frozen Food Co., Ltd.; Ng?c Sinh Seafoods (Cà Mau); Ocean Blue (Qu?ng Ngãi). Their export consignments were rejected due to the existence of Samonella bacteria...

Detailed information about rejected Vietnamese food export consignment is announced and updated monthly on FDA’s website (under "Search" section with key word "OASIS Refusals by Country").
