Explosive claims: China dumping of 'deadly agent' to be investigated
28/06/2018 12:00
Claims that discounted explosives made in China, Sweden and Thailand are being ''dumped” on the domestic market and are damaging the Australian industry will be investigated by the anti-dumping commissioner after three companies called for action.
The companies have alleged that “dumped” ammonium nitrate from the three nations has cut the Australian industry's sales, revenue, profits and prices.
According to the Anti-Dumping Commission, the three Australian manufacturers, Orica, Queensland Nitrates and CSBP Limited, allege that the dumped ammonium nitrate has caused a reduction in local jobs, lowered returns on investment and lowered capacity utilisation in the industry.
Orica chief executive Alberto Calderon welcomed the investigation, which will cover the period April 1, 2017 to 31 March 31, 2018.
“We need to address this now. The proportion of dumped product is increasing and if it’s not addressed now, it’s going to have a real impact on the medium to long-term viability of this industry and put Australian jobs at risk,” he said.
