EU: Southeast Asian countries need to improve the quality of food safety

In the speech before the press, a specialist of Hygiene and Food Safety of the EU said that Southeast Asian countries need to further improve its food safety in order to avoid being refused to import unqualified aquatic products.
The group of specialists of Hygiene and Food Safety of the EU briefly introduced new standards and regulations that have just been approved by the EU at the turn of this year on imported food from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
EU is the biggest aquatic - product - importer of Southeast Asian countries with the importing turnover of 1.6 billion US dollars. Moreover, demand for aquatic products of the EU increases average 4.4% per year. Imports from ASEAN account for more than 8% of total quantity of aquatic products imported to the EU.
