In an attempt to protect the domestic industry, the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has launched an anti-dumping investigation on the import of of caustic soda originating in or exported from Saudi Arabia and the US.
The probe comes as a response to the complaints raised by the domestic manufacturers in India. Alkali Manufacturers’ Association of India (AMAI) on behalf of 3 domestic producers of caustic soda including DCW Limited, Grasim Industries Limited and SIEL Chemical Complex have raised a petition before the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD).
Responding to the complaints, DGAD has said that it has sufficient evidence of dumping of these imports.
DGAD in its investigation will determine existence, degree and effect of alleged dumping and recommend the amount of anti-dumping duty, which if levied would be adequate to remove the injury to the domestic industry. Anti-dumping measures are taken to ensure fair trade and provide a level-playing field to the domestic industry.
