Rice export from Japan to China has been resumed since July 26, 2007 right after the Chinese Government decided to remove the import ban on Japanese rice, which has been applied for 4 years.

The first rice consignment amounted to 24 tonnes has been shipped and delivered to many supermarkets in Beijing and Shanghai.

In 2003, Chinese Government decided to halt rice import from Japan due to the concern that this product can carry pesticide to the country.

During official visit of Chinese President to Japan, two sides have spent sufficient time negotiating this matter and reached an agreement on resuming Japanese rice export to China.

Japanese rice is current sold at a price 20-fold higher than standard Chinese products, mainly served high income Chinese residents and Japanese who are living in China.
